2. create your ARTIST RESPONSE
Remember Rebecca's 3 points:
- You might feel uncomfortable. Stick with it. The opportunity for freedom and flexibility will present itself.
- This isn't about creating a masterpiece. This is about allowing yourself to explore without censorship. [You may use any materials you like. If the materials do not work well in a sketchbook, use similar size requirements and complete it outside of your book. We call these IWB pages "technique or media exploration"].
- You cannot exorcise these stories from your life. They are tightly woven into the fabric of what makes us who we are today. But what you can do is take the raw materials and create something new for yourself. Pick at the threads and get to your truth.
3. Continue to investigate, pick at the threads and get to your truth.
- HOMEWORK Due September 9 (IB ART 2 Critique Day- Summer Studio Work): Choose three strands of your concept that you will research from a variety of sources and at least two cultural backgrounds. Bring an Object to Class that symbolizes one of your strands. This object should be personally meaningful with regards to your artistic story in some way. [We will complete a Symbol/Object Research page in class on Sept 5].
- HOMEWORK Due September 11 (IB ART 1 Critique Day- Summer Studio Work): Create at least 3 sketches of concepts with different compositions/ possibilities. Annotate these sketches with your thoughts on strengths and weaknesses of these ideas. [We call this an Idea Development Process page].
- HOMEWORK Due September 19: Choose a particular MEDIA and TECHNIQUE that best suits your idea for your Conceptual Self-Portrait. Create one page demonstrating your skill with the media [Media Test page]. Create one page demonstrating your skill with a chosen technique [Technique test page]. These may run together or run onto several pages. It is important that you annotate with reflections on how these approaches support your ideas.
- Take photos of your work in progress with your phone or digital camera to keep in your IWB with your written reflections in your Process Pages.
- Conceptual Self-Portrait STUDIO WORK and IWB Process Pages Due: OCTOBER 8 (IBART2) and OCTOBER 10 (IBART1).
