Your first challenge in your Investigation Workbook this quarter is to create a mind-map like none other that shows your thoughts and techniques at work together in visual harmony on your pages. Be inventive. Unthink Graphic Organizers, Word Webs and notebook paper. You are strongly encouraged to think off of the pages as well. See these creative ideas at The Student Art Guide…

This quarter we will be working towards a better understanding of our own unique creative processes. We will study our material processes in depth and experiment with new (and even unusual) techniques and artmaking methods. We will play with new ways of working in our Investigation Workbooks to better reflect our knowledge of art making processes and our development of skills. We will refine and select the best ways of working to express our ideas.
Before Winter Break, all Seniors will submit Art Portfolios to the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards AND at least one individual project… (this GREATLY helps you prepare for your IB Exhibit in early April). Juniors will submit TWO individual projects (aiming for two different categories). The IB Markband Descriptors we will focus on this quarter are: STRATEGIES FOR EXPRESSION OF IDEAS Shows thoughtful development of ideas and strategies for expression. SENSITIVITY TO MATERIALS AND THEIR USE Displays sensitivity to materials and their use. The coherent body of work has been reviewed, modified and refined as it has progressed, resulting in an accomplished resolution of ideas and medium. TECHNICAL COMPETENCE Displays excellent technical competence. HOMEWORK: After watching the video, please reply with the following: 1. What is one thing (project, idea, or material process) you want to continue working on from 1st Quarter? 2. What is one way you think you could experiment with new ways of working that stretches, remixes, reworks or revamps your strongest material processes? 3. What stood out to you in this PBS Off Book video? AND, create your account for this year's Scholastic Art & Writing Awards and read the category descriptions. |
